MALAGA — More than 300 homes given invalid building licences in Marbella could be about to be bulldozed.
The regional government in Andalucia asked the Superior Court in Seville to annul 334 illegal building licences granted by the now defunct Marbella city council.
Some of the homes are occupied and others are up for sale, some for as much as EUR 1.9 million.
The Andalucian government also asked the court to annul invalid licences for 13 others offices and homes, which have not yet been built.
The illegal homes were built during the time of the late mayor of Marbella, Jesús Gil.
The city council was dissolved in March following a major police operation against a EUR 3.5 billion civic corruption scandal which led to the arrest of more than 30 people including the mayor and the head of urban planning.
Property developers were said to have paid them bribes in return for illegal licences to build developments in the area.
