More protests planned in Greece

ATHENS – Police are preparing for possible new violence at planned demonstrations to protest the fatal police shooting of a 15-year-old boy in Greece.

Dozens of stores, banks and cars were burned or smashed in weekend rioting across Greece after the boy was shot late Saturday in Athens.

Protesters planned demonstrations Monday evening in at least five Greek cities including Athens and Greece’s second largest city of Thessaloniki.

The country’s Police Officers’ Association apologised to the boy’s family, and President Karolos Papoulias sent a message expressing his condolences.

Britain and Australia urged tourists to be careful when visiting Athens and be aware of possible violent demonstrations.
