Madrid Cricket Club takes European award

11 February 2008

Madrid CC has received a major award from the European Cricket Council in recognition of its fundraising and awareness raising efforts to combat childhood Aids in partnership with UNICEF Madrid.

The club has won the ECC’s Best Spirit of Cricket in Partnership with UNAIDs and UNICEF Award for 2007 after it held a successful charity Twenty20 tournament last October.

The tournament brought together more than 50 cricketers and 100 people in Madrid for a tournament involving teams from the United Kingdom, Pakistan, Bangladesh and the Rest of the World, raising EUR 2,000 for UNICEF’s “Unite for children, unite for AIDS” campaign.

Madrid CC will now opt for the global award, given by the International Cricket Council. The winner will be announced in March.
