Kidnapped teen returns home

19 April 2007

REUS– A teenage girl who was snatched off the street and apparently held for two days against her will has returned home. Her family said she suffered sexual abuse at the hands of one of her abductors.

Police said the 15-year-old showed up late Wednesday at her home in Reus “safe and sound”.

The girl was abducted on Monday as she was walking with her young cousin to the home of their grandparents. Two men in a luxury sedan bundled the teen into the car after briefly speaking with her.

According to the girl’s aunt, she was driven to Barcelona and held in an apartment there where one of the men abused her. She was also robbed of her jewellery and the kidnappers smashed her cell phone so she couldn’t ring for help.

The teen managed to escape while the men were distracted and took a taxi back to Reus.

The girl’s mother told police that she suspected the snatch was carried out by a man in his thirties with whom the teen had chatted online.

Friends of the victim said the girl broke off the internet relationship with the man who then began phoning her incessantly.

The National Police are investigating.
