Girl killed by dogs

13 August 2004

MADRID – A four-year-old girl died on the holiday island of Mallorca on Friday morning after being attacked by two dogs.

Police said the child was staying with relations at a country house near Llucmajor when, for reasons as yet unknown, the dogs attacked her.

The girl was taken by members of her family to the Son Llátzer hospital in the city of Palma but died soon afterwards.

It is the ninth case of a child dying in Spain as a result of wounds caused by dog attacks since 1991. Ten adults have also died in the same period in similar circumstances.

Among the victims was a 20-month-old German girl who was mauled by a Stafford bull terrier at a house owned by friends of her parents on the island of Gran Canaria in 2000.
