Famous Latin lovers may not be what they were

8 November 2005

MADRID — The famous Latin lovers may have lost something of their mythical potency, according to a new survey.

A poll for the British condom company Durex found Spaniards had sex 105 times a year on average – five times less than in 2004.

But this still puts Spaniards above the average, according to the poll which questioned 317,000 people in 41 countries about their sexual habits.

The Greeks came out top of the survey as the most sexually active nation.

Those asked claimed they had sex 138 times a year. The average was 103.

In second place were Croatia (134) and third were Montenegro (128).

The French, who were winners last year, were reduced to sixth place. They said they had 120 amorous encounters each year.

Asians were the least active lovers, making love 50 percent less than the rest of the world.

The Japanese only had sex 45 times a year, while couples in Singapore made love on average 73 times.

The survey found a quarter of adults used vibrators to bring more pleasure into their love lives.

Spaniards were no exception – seventy percent said they liked to experiment. Indeed, the use of vibrators has risen 15 percent over the past year in Spain.

The most popular stimulants were pornography (41pc) massage oils (31pc) and lubricants (30pc).

The most popular ways to make love were once a night (38pc), by practising anal sex (33pc), sex with a lubricant (30pc) and lastly with bondage (29pc).

Almost half those questioned admitted to have had unprotected sex. Ten percent said they had caught a sexually transmitted disease.

But Spaniards were one of the most cautious nations, with 73 percent saying they used some sort of protection when having sex.
