ETA youth wing face 654 years in jail

MADRID-A prosecutor has called for 42 members of the Basque terror group ETA’s youth wing to serve a total of 654 years in jail.

Enrique Molina asked the Audiencia Nacional, Spain’s leading anti-terrorist court, to sentence the members of Jarrai-Haika-Segi to this jail term for a variety of alleged terrorist activities.

Thirty-two members of Segi were appearing in court. Ten others are on the run.

Eight are accused of collaborating with ETA and face up to 10 years in jail.

Others are accused of playing various roles in the group and could be jailed for up to 14 years each.

However, defendant Asier Tapia is accused of being involved in 17 terrorist attacks and three firebombings of three houses. He faces up to 112 years in jail in convicted.

The trial is due to take place at the end of this month.

The defendants, who all deny the charge, have been detained in custody.
