Behind scenes of ‘wedding of century’

4 February 2004

MADRID – The feverish anticipation surrounding the wedding of Crown Prince Felipe and television journalist Leticia Ortiz reached new heights Wednesday as it was announced a detailed documentary about the couple’s preparations will be aired on primetime television starting next week.

Antena 3, Spain’s first commercial channel, will broadcast a programme called ‘Diary of a Wedding’ on Wednesday 11 February dedicated to what the Spaniards are calling ‘the wedding of the century’.

Another instalment is expected to follow each week.

The wedding itself does not happen until 22 May, but the coverage is becoming more intense by the day.

The wedding will be held in the Cathedral of the Almudena in Madrid, and 1,400 guests are expected from around the world.

The public appearances of the couple, the details about the ceremony, the design of the wedding dress and who is to be invited will all be part of this 30-minute programme.

Since 1 November last year, when the wedding was officially announced, the Spanish media has been involved in a frenzied coverage of the event.
