Schering reports jump in profit

21 October 2004

BERLIN – German pharmaceuticals concern Schering AG reported Thursday that its profit through September reached EUR 595 million, up 10 percent on the same nine-month period last year.

Company chairman Hubertus Erlen said that revenues had risen 3 percent to just over EUR 3.64 billion, keeping Germany’s third-largest pharmaceuticals company on course to meet full-year targets for 2004.

He said that Schering now expected its 2004 earnings per share to reach EUR 2.35, up from the previously-projected EUR 2.26, thanks to lower tax charges.

In another development, Erlen said Schering will in the future report the salaries paid to executive board members individually in a further step towards transparency. Till now, the company has only reported the board chairman’s remuneration.
