Fischer’s vacation at Allianzboss house questioned

28 April 2004

BERLIN – Opposition German conservatives plan to question Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer’s use of a luxury Mediterranean villa belonging to a boss of the insurance and financial giant Allianz.

Fischer reportedly spent Easter at the villa in Mallorca belonging to Allianz executive board member Paul Achleitner, sources told Deutsche Presse-Agentur.

Opposition leaders plan to raise ethics questions over use of the villa at a parliamentary budget committee meeting Wednesday, said the sources.

Fischer, who is also Germany’s deputy chancellor, has known Achleitner for over 10 year and is the godfather of one of his children, according to a report in the news magazine Der Spiegel.
