48-hour sex rule for Mexico’s World Cup team

12 April 2006

MEXICO CITY – Mexico’s national team will have to abstain from sex for 48 hours before and after every game if they are to do their best at this summer’s World Cup tournament in Germany, according to sports news reports.

“There will be visiting hours assigned, in which the player is free,” the reports on Monday quoted coach Milton Graniolati, from Uruguay, as saying. “We won’t control whether he goes away with his wife, or if he stays home and reads, or if he goes to the beach.”

The “controlled sex” strategy would be in force during World Cup play in June and July, and was aimed at making sure the team’s 26 players will give 100 per cent to their efforts during play.
