MUNICH - Just one day after its chief operating officer was forced to stand down amid corruption allegations, Germany's Infineon AG has launched an investigation into whether to make a claim for compensation.

Infineon, Europe's biggest semiconductor maker, announced Sunday that Andreas von Zitzewitz had resigned in the wake of allegations concerning payments being made for motorsport sponsorship.

"We are examining whether Infineon was damaged and if so we will then take the appropriate measures," an company spokesman said Monday.
