Germany ready to help Greece more: finance minister

German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble said Tuesday that Berlin is ready to give Greece more financial aid under a second EU-IMF debt bailout provided banks and other private creditors take part.

"The German government is ready to participate in supplementary measures" in support of Greece, which is threatened with bankruptcy given debts of some 350 billion euros ($500 billion) despite a 110-billion-euro bailout last year.

Schaeuble, speaking on arrival for talks among eurozone finance ministers in Brussels on a new 80-billion-euro rescue plan, said that "of course a role for the private sector is an element in a new aid programme to come."

He added: "We are in discussions."
