German industrial rose in October in what the economy ministry described as "something of a recovery" following the slumps seen in previous months, official data showed on Wednesday.

Industrial production in October rose by 0.8 percent compared to the previous month, the economy ministry said in a statement.

"Following two consecutive months of decline, industrial output saw something of a recovery in October," the ministry said.

According to updated data, output had fallen by 2.8 percent month-on-month in September, a fractional downward revision from earlier.

The ministry remained cautious however and said that despite the modest pick-up in October, "the visible restraint in evidence in the third quarter is set to continue.

"Given the cautions development in industrial orders, output will remain subdued in the coming months," it said.

Figures released on Tuesday showed that industrial orders jumped by an unexpectedly strong 5.2 percent in October, raising hopes that Europe's top economy is standing up to the ongoing turmoil in the eurozone.
