Frankfurt - Muzaffer A was convicted by the High Court in Frankfurt of membership in a terrorist organization.

The court found that the 52-year-old had held a senior position in the southern German branch of the PKK.

The PKK is blacklisted as a terrorist organization by the European Union.

Ankara blames the separatist group for the deaths of more than 32,000 people since the early 1980s when the PKK began its fight for independence or autonomy for the mainly Kurdish-populated south-east of Turkey.
