German air traffic controllers plan new strike: union

German air traffic controllers unhappy over pay renewed their strike threat Sunday after calling off planned action last week, according to their union.

"We intend to strike this week," Markus Siebers of the GDF union told AFP.

The date will be announced with a day's notice, he added.

The union withdrew a strike call on Wednesday hours after a court ruling in Frankfurt banned their action in a case brought by the agency responsible for air traffic, the Deutsche Flugsicherung (DFS).

The GDF, which represents more than 3,000 of Germany's 5,500 air controllers, reserved the right to renew their call for action if an appeal court ruling went in their favour however.

Members are demanding a 6.5 percent wage increase.
