Deutsche Bank mulling Weber as next boss: report

German central bank chief Axel Weber is being considered a possible candidate to run the country's biggest private bank, Deutsche Bank, the weekly Manager Magazin said on Friday.

The magazine did not quote its sources but stressed Weber is "very well considered" by the Deutsche Bank board as it looks for someone to replace Josef Ackermann, who is due to step down in 2013.

Deutsche Bank declined to comment on what it termed "speculation."

Weber, who has been head of the Bundesbank since April 2004, has also been considered a leading candidate to replace Jean-Claude Trichet as president of the European Central Bank in October 2011.

The former German economics professor does not hesitate to speak his mind even at the risk of ruffling feathers in Brussels and his chances of getting the top spot at the ECB might have suffered as a result, analysts say.
