FRANKFURT – Nobel Peace Prize laureate Desmond Tutu will be the guest of honour at a giant football globe on the eve of next week Friday’s draw for the World Cup 2005 qualifying draw.
“We are very proud to have won such a famous personality for this event,” said Fedor Radman, an advisor for the World Cup organising committee board.
The South African archbishop Tutu received the Nobel Prize in 1984. His visit is also highly symbolical because South Africa lost the election for the 2006 host nation by one vote to Germany.
The giant football globe will make its second stop of the 12 World Cup host cities. The journey started in Berlin where some 110,000 people visited its exhibition including a World Cup history and the latest computer and internet technology.
