German investigators carried searched offices of European aerospace giant Airbus in a probe into suspected corruption involving contracts with Saudi Arabia and Romania, the Sueddeutsche Zeitung reported on Wednesday.

The prosecutor's office in the southern German city of Munich confirmed to the newspaper that the searches took place in October.

The raids took place at the German arm of Airbus Defence and Space and concern contracts worth around three billion euros ($3.7 billion) to supply border defence equipment to Saudi Arabia and Romania, the report said.

The Munich prosecutor's office is looking into suspect money transfers amounting to several million euros.

In 2009, Airbus struck a deal with Saudi Arabia to supply surveillance equipment to secure its 9,000-kilometre (6,000-mile) border, the Sueddeutsche Zeitung reported.
