The inflation rate in Germany, Europe's top economy, slipped slightly in April, the national statistics office said Wednesday, after hitting a 15-month high in March.

Prices rose 1.0 percent in April compared to the same month in 2009, the Destatis office said, after hitting 1.1 percent in March propelled by high energy and fuel costs.

Heating oil, petrol and diesel prices continued to drive inflation in April but lower natural gas prices helped pull down the overall rate.
