FRIEDRICHSHAFEN – The builders of the Zeppelin Neuer Technologie (NT) have announced that they have booked the first sale of the airship, to the Japanese company Nippon Airship Corporation.
The ZLT (Zeppelin Luftschifftechnik) company in Friedrichshafen said both sides had agreed not to divulge the sales price for the NT, which can carry 12 passengers and a two-person crew.
ZLT said Nippon Airship would use the NT chiefly for excursion flights and for advertising purposes, in a deal which the German firm said it hoped would be a “signal for the Far Eastern market”.
The sale comes some six years after the NT airship was first unveiled.
Plans foresee the NT to fly to Japan probably in June. ZLT said the airship will follow the same route which the legendary “LZ 127 Graf Zeppelin” took in its historic round-the-world journey in 1929.
Nippon Airship Corporation is majority-owned by the Japanese shipping company Nippon Yuisen Kaisha.
