DUSSELDORF – German energy utility giant E.ON disclosed on Friday that it has purchased NRE Energie, the fifth-largest electricity supplier in the Netherlands.

E.ON declined to divulge the price of the acquisition, through which the German firm will for the first time gain direct access to Dutch electricity customers.

It said NRE Energie, owned by the city of Eindhoven and 11 Dutch community governments, serves some 275,000 customers.
