The UN Human Rights Council began Monday its emergency session on Syria, during which it is to press for access to the country where over 2,000 people have been killed in ongoing crackdowns.

In the meeting called by 24 states, including Jordan, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Qatar, the council will consider a draft resolution that "deplores the continued indiscriminate attacks on its population" and seek an immediate stop to "all acts of violence".

The meeting was meant to have opened at 0930 GMT, but was delayed to the afternoon due to a problem with the meeting room's microphone system.
