Switzerland wants to change the European Court of Human Rights when it takes over the presidency.

GENEVA - Switzerland wants to reform the European Court of Human Rights when it takes over the rotating presidency of the related Council of Europe, the Swiss foreign minister said Monday.

The Swiss government wants to organise an international conference on how to make the court "more accessible" and "more efficient" when it takes over the council's six-month presidency in November, Micheline Calmy-Rey told reporters.

Currently a number of petitions filed at the court in Strasbourg, France are inadmissible, the council's secretary general Terry Davis said, in justifying the need for reforms.
