ZURICH - FIFA has appointed Hans Klaus as new director of communications.

The world football's governing body said Thursday that Klaus, a 42-year old Swiss, will start the job on 20 May. He will succeed outgoing media chief Andreas Herren.

Klaus is the current head of communication with Japan Tobacco in Geneva. He previously held roles as chief spokesman for Switzerland's justice ministry and spokesman for the defunct national carrier Swissair.
