GENEVA - The World Health Organisation says Egypt has reported its 50th case of bird flu in a human patient.

The WHO says a 2-year-old boy was hospitalised this week with symptoms of the H5N1 virus.

Two separate laboratories have confirmed the case.

The U.N. health agency says in a statement released on Thursday that the latest case brings the number of confirmed cases in Egypt to 50.

There have been 22 deaths in the country from the disease since 2006.
