Approved jobless insurance reforms divide country

A majority of citizens in a national referendum approve changes designed to bolster the finances of Switzerlands indebted unemployment insurance scheme by boosting premiums and reducing benefits. But the 53.3 percent overall support for the reforms masks significant regional divisions, with French- and Italian-speaking regions of the country, where jobless rates are relatively high, firmly turning their thumbs down.
