Swiss unemployment rises in April

GENEVA – Switzerland’s unemployment rate rose to 3.5 percent in April from 3.4 percent in March, official figures showed on Friday.

April’s jobless total jumped 35.5 percent from the figure in April 2008, the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) said, with 136,709 people registered as out of work in April.

Unemployment averaged 2.6 percent in 2008 against 2.8 percent in 2007.
