Expat-Expo: by, for and about English-speaking Switzerland

Comments0 comments

Designed for English-speaking expats in Switzerland, Expat-Expo is a free one-day event featuring over 400 different companies and attracting about 10,000 visitors per year. [Contributed by Expat-Expo]

Expat-Expo launched in February 2006 in a humble community hall in Zürich, but has since successfully conducted international events in Geneva, Zurich, Zug and Basel. In just a short period of time, Expat-Expo has become one of the most popular and anticipated international events for the expat community in Switzerland.

What is Expat-Expo: an expat event in Switzerland

Settling into a new country can be a daunting process for anyone, but Expat-Expo is designed to help the Anglophone community feel quickly at home. Showcasing a wide variety of businesses, organisations, clubs and churches from all over Switzerland and Europe, attendees can feel comfortable among fellow expats and get help adjusting to life in Switzerland.

In the space of an afternoon, families can find important services such as bankers, doctors, accountants and lawyers, schools and day-care, but also explore cultural, social and spiritual activities for expats such as museums, clubs and churches. For expats missing their home countries, and especially the foods associated with them, specialty food items from every corner of the world can also be found — at the upcoming Expat-Expo events in Zurich, for example, expats can find whisky and British cheese stalls to offer a taste of home.

We believe that these events for expats living in Switzerland contribute greatly to the successful integration of newly arrived families and veteran expats alike.

Benefits of Expat-Expo in Switzerland

Expat-Expo is a grassroots event that has evolved from a handful of tiny businesses, clubs and expat organisations in Switzerland that needed a place to display their products and services. We have taken a very different approach to marketing, offering very affordable fees — in return, our exhibitors work hard to inform their customers of the event, thereby creating our own advertising.

Our exhibitors all have a vital community spirit, and with their support, we are now able to hold expos in some of Switzerland's premier exhibition halls. Expat-Expo works because the English-speaking community and its businesses are supporting it. Without this community spirit, we simply could not exist.

Who exhibits at Expat-Expo?

Any company may exhibit, and the range of products and companies at Expat-Expo is huge: from language teachers working from their own homes to large multinational corporations such as Volvo, UBS, Swiss Life, Tesla and Credit Suisse. Most of the businesses exhibiting at the international event are expat-owned but there are also many Swiss companies, museums and tourism offices exhibiting as well.
