AFGANISTAN -- In Kandahar (Southern Afghanistan) two Belgian soldiers were wounded during a missile attack on the airport Thursday evening. They were not injured seriously.

The two Belgians were taken to the Canadian hospital on the base. They will reportedly be repatriated to Belgium as soon as possible for further medical care there.

Fortunately the two Belgian soldiers are not seriously injured. They were both able to talk to their families in Belgium and tell them about the incident.

The two Belgians are part of the Military Police contingency of the Belgian detachment that went to Afghanistan in the beginning of September. The detachment is part of the ISAF (International Security Assistance Force), a NATO-led security and development mission in Afghanistan.

An investigation has been opened into the circumstances surrounding the missile attack that wounded the two Belgians Thursday.
