Britain's Prince Charles was at the European Parliament on Thursday morning. The Prince was there to talk about climate change with a group of MEPs and invited guests.

He also used his visit to hold talks with the Speaker of the European Parliament, Hans-Gert Pöttering.

The man that is next in line to the British throne is on a two-day visit to Brussels.

Prince Charles is holding a series of meetings on issues related to global warming and climate change.

"Ticking ever closer to midnight"
In his speech to the European Parliament, Prince Charles called for a solution to the loss of the world's tropical forests.

The Prince said that a way must be found to make them worth more alive than dead.

He added that the crisis required the biggest public-private partnership ever seen.

Prince Charles praised the European Commission's recent proposals to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases by 20% before 2020.

It was the first time that Prince Charles had addressed MEP's since 1992. Then as now the Prince's speach dealt with environmental issues.

The prince told his audience: "The lives of billions of people depend on your response and none of us will be forgiven by our children and grandchildren if we falter and fail."

Representatives from a number of the prince's charities have travelled with him to Brussels , including the Prince's Trust, the Foundation for the Built Environment, the Rainforest Project, Prime Cymru and the Corporate Leaders Group on Climate Change.
