Belgian Rail is offering a free breakfast to commuters in the biggest rail stations this week. The initiative was set up to thank travellers for the trust they put in rail staff.

A majority of commuters find that rail staff working on the train and in the stations are doing a fine job, independent research shows.

In order to thank travellers for their trust, Belgian Rail is handing out free breakfast to commuters in six major Belgian stations.

Today, 2,500 sacks were handed out in Antwerp's central station.
A plastic sack contains a croissant, a waffle, a chocolate milk and a fruit juice.

"Respect basis rules"
For several years, a campaign has been running asking travellers to show more courtesy and respect for other train passengers. It appears the message is getting through.

"The basic rules include not disturbing fellow travellers by making too much noise and not putting your feet on the seats. An increasing number of people are following these instructions," a commuter explains.

If you have missed a free breakfast today, you can still have one in Ghent (East Flanders) and Hasselt (Limburg province) later this week.
