Belgian high schools illegally limiting enrolment numbers

Some high schools are limiting the number of students they enrol without a legal motive, because they are unable to cope with the financial pressures of the rise in students.

The Federation of Francophone students (FEF) wrote a letter to the minister of education highlighting this issue, reported Le Soir on Wednesday.

Many high schools fix conditions of entry according to the number of available spaces, or limit spaces due to infrastructure and security.

Yet the decree which governs senior schools in the French community specifically states that there must be free access for students to go to the school of their choice, and that it is the role of the school to adapt themselves to the demands.
