Belgian athletes will be allowed to speak their mind about human rights' violations during the Summer Olympics.

The Belgian Olympic Committee, the BOIC, has granted its athletes the right to speak out at the Beijing Olympics.

In contrast with countries like Britain and Australia Belgian athletes will be allowed to speak their mind about human rights' violations during the Summer Olympics.

The BOIC's communications director Luc Rampaer told the VRT that athletes can speak out and give a personal view when they feel it is necessary.

The only limit on free speech is the one imposed by the Olympic charter.

During the competition and in the Olympic Village athletes are not allowed to take political stances because the Olympic Movement is apolitical.
