BELGIUM - Abdallah Ait Oud has been found guilty of the murders of Nathalie and Stacy in 2006 on Tuesday and will be issued a sentence on Wednesday.

Ait Oud maintained his innocence until the very last. Scientific proof against him however persuaded the jury of his guilty. The fibres from his jeans were found on the bodies of the two girls.

The trail against Ait Oud began in Liège a few weeks ago. He was charged with the kidnapping, confinement, rape and murder of the two stepsisters aged seven and 10.

Nathalie and Stacy disappeared on 9 June 2006 at night when they were at a fair in Liège. Their bodies were found following a few weeks of intensive search parties.

Almost two years after the disappearance of the two girls, the trial against Ait Oud started amid massive press attention.

The jury began its deliberation at 2:00 pm. The jury returned with a verdict of guilty on all 23 counts against Ait Oud. Sentencing will take place on Wednesday.
