Muslim school to open in Molenbeek

27 August 2007
MOLENBEEK – A Muslim secondary school will open its doors in Sint-Jans-Molenbeek on 12 September. The school has not applied for certification and will not receive any subsidies.

It will not be much different from a regular school, a spokesperson for the school told VRT radio. The students will receive two hours of instruction on Islamic culture every week however.

Since the school does not receive any government funding, tuition of EUR 1,800 per child will be charged. These costs will be covered by the parents and the Muslim community.

The school will host two classes of first year secondary students this academic year.
