Bookings from Charleroi still on hold

27 August 2007

CHARLEROI – Ryanair is still not booking any tickets for flights leaving Charleroi after 12 November. Bookings will resume "as soon as possible," the Irish low cost airline announced on Friday.

Ryanair suspended bookings on 21 August for all flights after 12 November because the airline wanted guarantees from airport officials that a minimum of services will be provided. The demand came after a strike by MET security personnel paralysed Charleroi airport from 15 to 17 June.

Top management of BSCA reached an accord with Michael O'Leary, head of Ryanair, in Dublin last Thursday. A social accord was signed with the trade unions. The parties then announced that bookings would resume soon, "possibly on Monday."

That was not the case on Monday morning however. David Gering, commercial director of Ryanair Benelux said that the situation would be back to normal soon. The company's management is working out the last details of the accord before bookings resume, he said.
