Belgians win prizes at Cannes

Bouli Lanners’ “El Dorado” and “Moscow Belgium" get international recognition at the film festival which ended on Sunday.

CANNES - At the Cannes Film Festival in France, the Belgian filmmaker Bouli Lanners has won three prizes in the competition "Quinzaine des realisateurs" (The fortnight of the producer).

His tragic comedy "El Dorado" won the Prize of International Film Criticism, the European label and the Youth Trophy. El Dorado is Lanners's third film.

Earlier, Flemish movie "Moscow Belgium" (Aanrijding in Moscow) won the SACD Prize for Best Script and the ACID/CCAS distribution Prize. In the competition for debuts, it also won the Grand Rail d'Or Prize of the Semaine de la Critique.

The movie is the debut of the young Flemish filmmaker Christophe Van Rompaey.
The film tells the story of a divorcee who bumps into a young truck driver on a supermarket car park.

160,000 tickets for the road movie have already been sold at Flemish box offices.
