BRUSSELS – The car-maker Volkswagen has announced that 200 jobs are to be axed at its Brussels Forest plant.
The firm’s management has informed workers representatives that the Brussels factory has 600 jobs surplus to requirements.
According to Flemish daily De Tijd, it has said 200 of these posts would be scrapped outright and a further 400 farmed out to subcontractors.
Volkswagen said the reason for the job losses was the recent downturn in car sales.
