Verhofstadt wins Italian book prize

BRUSSELS – Outgoing Prime Minister Guy Verhofstadt has won the Italian Capalbio prize for his book about Europe ‘The united States of Europe’. The award is for the book that has made the best contribution to European integration and cooperation. Verhofstadt will receive the prize in early September.

This is the eleventh edition of the Capalbio prize, which lauds books on historical, economic and political issues. This is the first time that the prize has a European dimension. The former Italian prime minister and present Minister of Home Affairs Giuliano Amato will present the award to Verhofstadt in the Italian city of Capalbio (Tuscany) in September. Verhofstadt is honoured to be given the award, according to reports.
