BEIJING – Kim Gevaert will not be competing in the final of the women’s 100 metres at the Olympic Games in Beijing.
The Flemish sprinter came in sixth in her semi-final race with a time of 11.30 seconds. Gevaert needed to end in the top four positions to enter the final.
It was also a disappointing day for the Belgian hockey team.
The Belgian lions lost their fourth group match against South Korea by three goals to one.
The Belgians remain fifth in their group on one point, but are now six points behind fourth-placed New Zeeland with just one match to go.
Only the top four teams will progress to the next round.
A good day on the water
Belgium’s sailors fared somewhat better. Evi Van Acker came sixth in the sixth Laser Radial regatta.
She has moved up from eight to sixth place overall.
Carolijn Brouwer en Sébastien Godefroid came sixth in the fourth race in the tornado class.
They are now in eight place overall.
Lansink doing well
The equestrian Jos Lansink put in another good performance in the second qualifying round of the show jumping.
He completed the course picking up just one penalty point for being out of time.
Lansnik is now fourth out of the 77 equestrians competing.
