8 November 2007

BRUSSELS –  Last month the Flemish Employment Agency VDAB received a record number of job offers.

The number of vacancies that couldn’t be filled in October also reached a new high. Last month the VDAB received 33,000 job offers.

The figure is up 10,000 on the month previous.

The number of job vacancies has not been at this level since the year 2000.

The biggest increase was recorded in Flemish Brabant province with 64 percent more vacancies than the previous month.

48,000 vacancies could not be filled last month.

The increase in the number of vacancies was greatest among unskilled workers.

Over half of all vacancies are aimed at workers without a diploma or with only limited qualifications.
