BRUSSELS — Shipping police rescued a man and four children from drowning on Wednesday.

The man and children were swimming in the banned area at the Klein Strand in Oostende when they get into trouble.

Due to the rising water and strong currents, the swimmers were swept away towards the timbers of a palisade.

Passersby saw the swimmers were in trouble and alerted police, broadcaster VTM reported.

The man and children were pulled to safety by a rescue boat and only suffered scrapes and grazes.
