Jeanne Devos wins Vlerick Award 2006

BRUSSELS — Nobel Peace Prize nominee Sister Jeanne Devos has been awarded the Vlerick Award 2006.

She is the latest of many prominent winners of the annual award, which is presented each year by the Vlerick Management School Alumni.

The award is presented to a high-achiever for important, international and sustainable results.

Devos was presented with the award at a special ceremony in Oostende on Friday night.

Originally of Kortenaken, Flemish Brabant, Devos has worked as a missionary in the slums around Mumbai, India, for the past 40 years.

She established the National Domestic Workers Movement, which fights for the rights of women and children across India.

In 2000, Sister Jeanne was awarded an honorary doctorate from Leuven University.

She was also nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize last year.
