BRUSSELS – New measures should put an end to often misleading discount prices advertised by budget airlines like Ryanair. Starting next year airlines may no longer advertise cheap ticket prices that fail to mention all the taxes, surcharges and reservation costs included in the final bill.
The European Parliament approved a series of proposals today requiring airlines to always report the full price of a ticket, Het Laatste Nieuws reported on Wednesday.
Starting 1 January 2008 airlines will only be able to advertise the full ticket prices, including all surcharges and reservation costs. Internet booking systems must also display the total price immediately.
“This will put an end to the non-transparent and often misleading discount prices advertised by budget airlines,” said MEP Saïd El Khadraoui (Socialist SP.A).
