“[The problem] of theft from the EU money box has become so acute,” Europe needs an institution to protect its financial interests, reports the Warsaw daily, which gives details of plans to establish a European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO).
Draft legislation to establish the EPPO is expected in June. According to a criminal law expert quoted by the newspaper, the new institution will pave the way for “more effective prosecution of cross-border crime.” However, it appears that the UK has yet to be convinced that the EPPO is truly necessary.
