Beware of extra strength ecstasy pills

14 October 2008

BRUSSELS — The federal health department has issued a warning to party-goers of a batch of ecstasy tablets which are much higher in strength.

According to the Scientific Institute for Public Health, the higher-than-average-strength pills pose a danger to anyone taking them.

The pills, which look like standard ecstasy pills, contain two or three times as much amphetamine as normal ecstasy tablets.

Anyone overdosing on ecstasy risks a rise in body temperature to over 40 degree Celsius, heart problems and a rise in blood pressure.

An ecstasy overdose can also lead to lasting brain damage, warns the health department.
