BRUSSELS – Belgium is now the world’s leading producer of plastics, according to the country’s main chemical industry lobby.
New figures from industry lobby Fedichem show that in 2003 Belgian companies produced 534 kilograms of new plastic products for each of the country’s 10 million-plus inhabitants.
The plastics industry also recycled a total of 163 kilograms of plastic per inhabitant, Fedichem added.
These figures make Belgium the world’s number one plastics producer, the lobby said proudly.
The plastics industry in Belgium generated an impressive EUR 7 billion in 2003 and is now the country’s leading exporter, Fedichem added.
