Belgium to start reopening airspace Tuesday

BRUSSELS – "Some landings will be possible from 08:00 am (0600 GMT) and take-offs from 2:00 pm at the earliest," the ministry said.

Transport Minister Etienne Schouppe had on Sunday talked of resuming flights as soon as conditions allowed.

"First it will be planes without passengers from Brussels-based companies which will be allowed to fly home," Schouppe spokesman Jan Pauwels told AFP.

All planes will be inspected to see if they incurred any engine damage during flight from the volcanic dust, he added.

Bringing planes back to Belgium will better allow for testing and maintenance, carrier Brussels Airline said.
