A number of Belgian politician too have extended their condolences to the Dutch royal family and the Dutch people. The Belgian Foreign Minister Didier Reynders (Francophone liberal) wrote on Twitter that "I would like to wish the royal family and the population of the Netherlands strength in dealing with the news that Prince Friso has passed away."

The Flemish Prime Minister Kris Peeters (Christian democrat) wrote "In the name of the entire Flemish Government I would like to express our deepest sympathy to the Dutch royal family and the Dutch people".

"The unfortunate skiing accident in February last year last year touched a lot of people in Flanders. We are also very sad at his untimely death. My thoughts are in the first place with his wife Princess Mabel and their two daughters. I would also like to extend my sincere condolences to King Willem-Alexander, Princes Beatrix, the Dutch royal family and the Dutch people".

Mr Peeters will send an official letter of condolence to the Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte within the next couple of days.
